I am in love with Ori Patterns.

I love handmade silver ...magic paper from Plaza Art Store. 

While I fancy it silk worm spiderwebbing reminiscent, I am obliged to add meets silvery, organic fibers…in an anatomical-like weave of intricate cording and micro wiring systems that illustrate our nervous systems in our 9th grade biology classes. All this: strictly, aesthetically speaking of course. 

I am in love with ori patterns. Like, the ones inside the patterns I create by repurposing an object for its color/texture to better illustrate iconic, symbolic patterns in my own original, mixed-media, assemblage, abstractions. 

But by far, my favorite part is the chopping up of jewelry. I strip value of each medium and reassign it simultaneously as it becomes all a working part of one whole thus establishing uno.. singular figure (or in the case of a series: a collective one).

Mortabulous: Cost vs. Value

I have looked into the eyes of men so desperate to have experienced horrors only the rawest human circumstances can produce as they wove tales of morbid grandeur. Inherently, I was aware of their fallacies. For I have known men who have actually experienced these cruel realities, it is always in the eyes that you can tell. There is also a strong hesitation to the retelling and, more importantly, the reliving of that which haunts those who have seen the uglier sides of life. Staring into the eyes of they who can only sing stories about daydream experiences is almost like looking into the eyes of a lying child. I just let them have their day with my ear, as they are men and past the point of doglike correction. It is all very exhausting, the whole "pointing out a lie" thing. So carry on jester, weave your mortabulous tale - just remember this: I refuse to suspend belief in your honor because that pin lands in the "requires energy" territory on the map, and a lie is never worth such things. Cost vs. value.

Yesterday I bought my first GPS. Today I ignored the audio prompted directions almost the whole way to my new job, only to find out that Magellan can be a bit hostile. Announcing things like "WARNING" as I passed each suggested turn. I'm relieved to have one of these devices because it sure beats printing direction and reading while driving, better yet-reading while maneuvering the mixing bowl. Sadly, I am directionally challenged so this means big things for me. No more "I don't know that area" anxiety or getting lost drama. It just recalculates. I wish life was like a GPS, when things go south just recalculate.

This one I don't really have an explanation for, I just love the night sky and specials on the Science channel about outer space.  That and if you look at this series as a whole, there is this kinda perfect totem pole.  Sky, land, sea.  Come to think of it, I think that should be the title of the series.

This painting has story.  Once upon a time I painted a similar piece, a bit larger with a different leaves/plants/color scheme/etc. and then it gifted after it was sent to a competition and didn't win any awards.  Then it was lost, along with several other pieces.  I decided that it was time to truly let go of the lost artwork by creating something new with similar themes.  

Choosing to paint coral reef was a terrifying prospect once I investigated my google image options.
Ultimately, I think my interpretation definitely gets the message to the viewer: hey - I'm coral reef.
That ain't shabby, it could've been a disaster.

To be or not to be: Linkedin

I've been closely monitoring my Linkedin account, trying to decide whether or not it is actually useful.  I already have a Facebook so I don't need another website to socially navigate cyberspace - I want a good, professional networking website that actually works to my benefit.

So far, I have arranged my resume/portfolio into my profile uniformly enough.  Also, I have made 56 connections, mostly people of all calibers from past jobs and classmates from school.  The next step seems to be references/recommendations.  I emailed out a few requests hoping to get lucky, we'll see what this profile section completion does for my experience.  If all else fails, at least it will be nice to get a little third party, objective perspective on my work ethic, performance, general attitude, etc.

In summary, Linkedin is still up for debate in my opinion.  I have yet to understand it's purpose for me.

New Job

I am really excited about my new job with Rodney Bailey Wedding Photojournalism.  I start on the 23rd as Office Manager and Photo Editor.  It's a fantastic opportunity for experience, and it compliments my other part-time gig as Event Staff with DBI Events (floral decor event company).  I think the best part is a future of being paid to work with photography, equipment and software.  This will be a welcome change to sitting in a cubicle crunching numbers all day.  Woohoo!
